Text:   Medway City Ark allows free web access to Parish Records and the early Vinall's Baptismal, Marriage and Burial records are found mostly in Gillingham Parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene.

Coomber Vinall b.circa 1784 is usually shown as a fisherman except for Hannah Sugar's records where he is shown as a shipwright.
You records are missing Amelia Ann Vinall b.1816, to Coomber and Ann Vinall, d.7.11.1830

Henry Vinall b. 1819,married Mary Ann Flinn,17.6.1841,St. Mary Magdalene,Gillingham.Mary Ann's Father's name given as Edward Flinn.
Henry is shown on the 1861 census living with his family on the High Street Gillingham.
Mary Ann Vinall (nee Flinn), married Achydachy Carr 13.5.1866 at St. Barnabas Church, Lambeth, London. His occupation is given as gunmaker. At this time the gunmaking trade was moving from London to Birmingham.

I have not been able to find a record of Henry Vinall's death yet.

In 1871 Mary Ann and her new husband were living in Moorsom Street Birmingham with his two sons and three of Mary Ann's children.

Henry Vinall and Mary Ann's son Jonathan married Harriet Jane Richardson at the Bishop Ryder Church, Birmingham, 2.6.1873.He was dead by 1881 but again I cannot find him in the records. Harriet married George Miller and after he died she married Edward Hewson who had previously married to Jonathan's sister Mary Ann Vinall.

Have more if you are interested and I believe Daniel Robert Vinall b. 1830 died in 1842 and the Daniel Vinall (Pembury) is wrongly attributed to Coomber and Ann Vinall.

Text:   Attached is the marriage certificate of Annie Ladbury & Thomas Alfred James. I noticed on the website that you have a marriage for her in 1891 so maybe this is not the same person – seems unlikely though given the father’s name.

The references for the census records:

  1901:   RG13/348, Folio:   115, Page:30

  1891:RG12/330, Folio:48, Page:30

There are a number of things on this entry that don’t quite tie up but i’m sure it is the correct one (maybe you have an opinion):

  (1) The surname has been transcribed as “Shamer” and looks like Shamer on the original document but all other details tie up – names (with one exception) of the children, ages of the children and Thomas Alfred’s occupation. Also, one of the neighbours – Albert Withey appears as a witness on the marriage certificate of Thomas and Annie’s son (also Thomas Alfred. Incidentally, Annie Ladbury is named as the mother on Thomas Alfred Jnr’s birth certificate).

  (2) Annie’s age appears to be 34 which would make her birthdate 1857, not 1864/65 as on all other documents.

  (3) One of their children is down as Catherine James but appears as Caroline James on the 1901 census. I haven’t been able to find any birth for a Catherine James around 1884, however, there is a birth for Caroline James. Also, I have Caroline’s marriage certificate which names Thomas Alfred James as her father and one of the witnesses is an Ellen Ladbury (do you know who this may have been?).

I haven’t got a definite death date for Annie but there is an entry in the BMD Indexes for an Annie James – July quarter 1934, Poplar 1c/265 that could well be her.

I have more information on the James family should you be interested but you may, like me, be trying not to get too side-tracked.

If you’d like anything else then please let me know.

  Regards,
  Simon
